1: The temperatures are cooler, we don't have to wear clothes! Worgies do not understand the human need for clothing anyway, but are compelled to wear pants when it is hot outside. Don't ask! It's a monster thing!

2: The trees are about to change color! While mere human eyes might delight to the color show, imagine what all of that looks like to a Cyke Tyke? Even better, imagine what that looks like to Cyke Tyke Mike? While on a hike? Or on a Trike!

3: Curly Hair is Cool Again! Zombies with curly hair suffer all summer. It's bad enough having an insatiable hunger for brainy snacks; the curly-headed undead have to deal with thick mattes of sweat producing hair, too!

What I do: Look for high places to play
Task: Train with others for a possible escape
Likes: To play badminton
Body: Lightweight, small, dark skin and fleshy red lips
Ability: Good jumper
Food: Plants

They do everything together and usually Kippi carries Pikki above, he doesn't mind because he knows Kippi would do the same for him, this is called totem behavior.
These two athletic Kritures, since the day they have found racquets, they know that they were meant to play badminton. The problem is that one of them is a lefty and other one is a right hander, so one of them have a huge tendency to lose games. This is a good way to know who's who when both are on the ground.

Wow. What a crazy year! We started doing shows 13 months ago with our creepy little Grimmleigh's dolls, and we really had no idea what was coming! We're not quitting our day jobs by any means, but people seem to like what we have been doing. The best part has been watching people start to "get" what we're doing!

Being part of Monster Etsy has been awesome, too. There has been a lot of camaraderie and support out there, and we really appreciate it. Even though we haven't been very active for a while, the support we found here has been a large part of why we have been able to become more active with our local craft scene, start a craft co-op, and get the word out about the hand-crafts movement.

Whatever the years ahead bring, we just wanted to say thanks to everyone at Monster Etsy, and encourage everyone to keep doing what you are doing, supporting each other, and being a great team!

Clay and Fur Creatures - Kriture

Soft Kritures are the union between clay Kritures and plush. They are totally malleable, and are prepared for children to play or to hang in your car, as they don't break so easily. Each one has a Kriture sewed tag in the back and instead of glued, the clay is sewed into the fabric so it lasts for ever.

The eyes on this one glows in the dark.
Each one is OOAK and have 3.5" (9cm) height, 2.4" (6 cm) weight and is less than 30gr.

I made two of them. they are hand built from fine porcelain and high fired, so they are super sturdy. The wallet goes in the gaping maw and rings or keys on the tail or horns... have put one of them in the shop and maybe the next one up after the upcoming Renegade Craft fairs in LA and SF.

You can now check out my tamer ceramics at the Flower Farm Nursery in Loomis, just north of Sacramento in Ca. I have a few korean Teacups there and a yarn bowl or two. None too monstery to fit the area :)
This is a great little coffee shop, nursery, local artist's store and Bed and Breakfast. Enough stuff there? Yeah, I would say it is just about right. They make a mean iced mocha, too!

So Mr. 365 and I thought maybe we should try an art swap here at the team. So to test it out, we swapped with each other, he painted one of my Ochibos and I made a ceramic zombie brush holder for him. It took a while for each of us to get off our butts and get our work done but the end result is so freaking cool, it was totally worth the wait. Here is the "Stompchibo" he painted for me:

I looooveee Vietnamese food. I don't usually go out to eat Viet food because both of my parents are amazing cooks. :D Since I was a kid, I've been fed yummy authentic Vietnamese food and so my standard for Viet food is pretty high. Haha. There are a couple places in OC that I really like. There are a couple Viet places in SB too. They're not bad but I wouldn't eat there if I have other options. (Shhh!)

I love Pho, both beef and chicken. :D My idea of good Pho is that the broth has to be clear but still flavorful and the noodles are neither too hard nor too soft. Even Pho places at home tend to mess up one or the other so I usually just get my parents to cook it for me. :D I also like Com Tam from Thuan Kieu (on Brookhurst) and Mi Quang from Lien Hue (on Euclid). My mom makes amazing Bun Mam, but not many people can eat it though because, if you're not used to it, it's super stinky. Haha.

I go to K-BBQ places a lot but only because I love their condiments. :D <3 Cham Soot Gol.

If you get a chance to visit SB, I would suggest Duck Curry from Pattaya (Goleta) and Tostada & Quesadillas from Free Birds (IV). Haha. Those always hit the spot.

Funny that you asked because I recently had a convo with a friend about how much I actually like Formspring.

I think it's okay. It's not fancy but it's a cute idea.

Formspring isn't worth it though if people keep giving out short or one word answers. I mean, if I wanted your one word, I'd Facebook/IM you. Or if they give you statements instead of question. Sorry, but if you're not using it for its function, then it's obviously not worth it. :)

This week I worked on barbara the monster. I gave her a new style of eyes and a new nose. Let me know what you think of her. I used acrylic paint to stain her a light green tone and it also gave her a nice ring around her eyes. Her arms are different than I usually do. They are a bit patch-work. Check her out!

Leroy's girlfriend doled out only one duty to him on the day of her brother's birthday party: bring the balloons and don't get jacked up on the way.

That's kind of hard to do when he has to cross one treacherous river, weave through a gypsy camp, and accidentally find himself an innocent bystander in the middle of a gang war.

He might have lost a pinky toe and he's pretty sure one of the gypsies picked his pocket, but by golly every last one of those balloons made it unscathed. Except the green one; Leroy's pretty sure the green one got spat on by a Crip.

Leroy and his balloon bundle are painted on a 5.5"x5.5" canvas and sealed with a thick coating of protective varnish, giving it a nice sheen.

Hello everyone, from disgustingly snowy Pittsburgh. My name is Erin; I'm 30 and I paint monsters under the name Somnambulant. Most of them come with their very own tales as well.

When I'm not painting and writing, I enjoy forcing fake blood animal masks upon my friends and taking photos of them with my Holga. I'm a huge hockey fanatic and will pretty much watch any horror movie you put in front of me.

Hello All!
I'm new to the team, hence, this introductory post. My name is Andrea, like Andrew, not Ondrea, and i like to craft odd creatures. I'm not new to Etsy, but i am new to selling on Etsy. I never know what to say about myself on these introductory posts, so here is my feeble attempt: I'm 28, a Scorpio, and i read a lot. Mostly classic literature. I'd like to be a published writer someday, and perhaps a photographer... and an owner of my own little shoppe or boutique. As of right now i live in TN, but am planning on moving to FL in a few months to be with my fiance. We are hoping to be married shortley thereafter. Of course i am very excited about that! Hey! I'm Marcia Gaudêncio, from Portugal. I sculpt creatures and bugs, do digital illustration, graphic design, jewelry, animation, etc :) Kriture is a reason for me to explore art, combining my love for biology, astronomy, design and crafts.
Personally, I like to keep them cute and silly, so you can sketch a smile every time you see one :)

Concept:
A Kriture is an idea that is stored in a box by a girl, in a dark room, life was created out of those ideas. It's like going back 2 billion years ago, but in another place where Fauna and Flora born for the first time in a surreal world.

Blog posts can have a new step towards their evolution written by their leader, illustrations, news and artist features.

We're not fans of V-Day. Don't get us wrong; a day that celebrates love, and expressing that love to someone you care about is great. We're not big fans of a mandatory express your love with expensive gifts day, though. A simple note, a home-cooked meal, and maybe a hand made expression or two should be all that matters. But, we also know that sometimes there is a little something out there that can say it all, and we want to make sure you know where to get it!

We'll be posting a whole slew of love-struck zombies for this most gooey of holidays, and we're making them a little smaller so you could say, pick up one of these sweet little rotters and still have enough for dinner! Also, they're already dead, so they'll last longer than flowers!

They're hitting the Etsy shop now, and just like every Grimmleigh's Fiend they are completely hand crocheted and hand painted, and no two are ever the same!

Shoe Heads!

First, my apologies for not being as active with this blog as I could be. I'll blame it on the monsters...

Second, I have been making these "Shoe Heads" or mini-mask wall hanging sculptures. The base is the cardboard form that sometimes comes inside of a new shoe. Having no budget for new shoes, I head to the local shoe store, Paul's Shoes here in Chestertown, MD. They normally recycle these in the curbside bins with the paper recycling, but hand them over for me to give them a bit of new life. You could approach your local shoe store if you are interested in using these as an art material!

Also, I've started using another by-product of the shoe industry, suede scraps from a moccasin company. Pictured is one of my recent 'babies'. I also have some of the earlier ones in my artfire shop. Others I have made have sold well locally, and I occasionally list a few in my etsy shop as well.

Wharjit and Muncher

I would like to introduce those of you who haven't already met to Wharjit and Muncher.

Both were uncovered recently on the banks of a nearby glacial river, but that's pretty much where the similarities end. Wharjit is a docile, long since extinct creature of the alpine tundra, and so far I've had several people insist that Muncher reminds them of their Mother-In-Law. Must be due to her drop dead gorgeous eyes or something....

My name is Rebekah Robson and my shop is Lemonwood Clock ( http://www.etsy.com/shop/lemonwoodclock ). I sell handmade toys and gifts. Right now my shop features my sock monsters. I also have a line of dolls I hope to post soon.
I sew a lot and do acrylic paintings. My other projects and interests can be found on my blog.
In the past, my shop only consisted of my paintings. But since the birth of my 5 month old son, I became passionate about making toys that are safe and fun for him. He loved his first sock monster so much I made him another one. And then another... and well, making sock monsters is addictive! Monster on the Move

As the days get shorter and there's less gardening to take up my time, I can shift back into monster-making mode. Soon I'll be adding more to my etsy shop but first I wanted to set one monster free in the wild:

The Toy Society started in Australia but has spread worldwide -- the idea is to drop the toys where kids (or grownups) will find them and take them home. This monster, Glumpy, will be my first drop but I have also signed up for the worldwide Christmas Toy Drop. Check my Flickr stream to see where Glumpy was dropped and who found her!
